Overview of Republican Foriegn Policy

Back in 2004, the Republican platform for US foreign policy was summed up as “A Safer World and a More Hopeful America” and highlighted what it saw as intelligent and successful policy for Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries seen as threats to the safety and security of the United States. The Republican platform gave accolades to the Bush administration for its unwavering leadership, its ability to maintain alliances, its maintenance of the most technically advanced and organized armed forces worldwide, and its promise to create a safer America by freeing more than 50 million people in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In contrast, the Democratic platform of 2004 called for the United States to be “Strong at Home, Respected in the World” and expressed great concerns over our troops being in substantial harm, while our credibility the world over was growing increasingly compromised.

Republicans claim that the Bush administration was smart to put the world in fear of the United States by demonstrating that we will not subvert our power and our belief in freedom to any leader or any country. Weapons of mass destruction have been a focus of the war since its inception and as a result of Bush’s actions, Libya’s leader turned over his weapons of mass destruction as a sign of faith and trust in the world community spearheaded by a strong America.
The platform heralds the complete and total destruction of terrorism throughout the Middle East and pledges that we will replace such regimes with the salve of democracy as an alternative to rule by terror. Republican policy credits Bush’s determined leadership with hitting the Taliban at its core, which will weaken Al-Qaeda over time. Republican platform says, “Today, the governments of the United States and Pakistan are working closely in the fight against terror.” Moreover, it says, Saudi Arabia, where terrorists were well established three years ago, “has seen the danger and has joined the war on terror.”
Additionally, overthrowing Hussein’s regime has permeated the Middle East’s beliefs about how much change is actually possible in light of the Islamic Extremist grip of power.  Although the attempt to integrate Democratic beliefs and practices in Iraq has resulted in a number of bloody battles, the US mission to spread freedom will one day save more people than  it ever put at risk.,
The Republican platform has intended to create a strong relationship with India and Pakistan and pledges to contribute to the social and financial growth of its people.

Likewise, the administration strives to assist in creating a new Palestinian leadership so that one day Israel and Palestine can live side by side in total peace and mutual support. Although Iran continues to be a difficult subject, our main concern is intercepting any development of nuclear weapons, citing them as “intolerable to the international community.”
